Basic Types of "Application" Programs
"Application" programs are the programs (software) that are the tools you use to do work on your computer. There are many more types of "programs" that aren't applications. For example, your car has a number of computers in it - you have probably had to go to a mechanic to fix those computers. However, the programs that work on those computers aren't "applications" that you can open on your home computer. Applications are programs that were written specifically to do everyday work on a desktop or laptop computer.
